Personal Growth

Personal Growth Course

The Personal Growth course is a pre-requisite for admission to the Communication and Counselling Skills course because we believe that no one is in a position to counsel another until they have a clear understanding of themselves.  In this way counsellors are able to recognise their own emotional triggers and be aware of keeping their own issues separate from those of the caller.

In addition, obtaining this self-awareness and knowledge leads to greater understanding and an enhanced ability to communicate effectively.  Increased self knowledge enables us to focus effectively on the other in any interaction, thereby improving relationships.

The course is constructed to lead us into a deeper exploration of who we are and why we behave in the way we do.  It covers a range of topics which are explored over the nine sessions. The topics range from relationships and conflict, to spirituality, loss and many other issues such as structural life pressures and coping mechanisms.

People work in small groups, each facilitated by an experienced counsellor whose task it is to ensure the safety and containment of their group.  The learning is experiential in nature and not lecture based. Exercises range from discussions, drawing, guided meditations and a variety of others and participants can expect both laughter and tears!  A totally non-judgemental and supportive, confidential approach is guaranteed.

Fifty years and tens of thousands of participants later, we can safely say that this course comes highly recommended by all who have done it.

"My experience of Lifeline’s personal growth course was one that challenged and boosted me in equal parts. With the guidance of a compassionate and sensitive facilitator, and the support of a group made up of individuals from very different walks of life, Lifeline provided a safe space in which I could be vulnerable and honest, and ask myself some difficult questions. Looking back, the opportunity to explore my responses with my group, and listen and learn as they shared theirs was an immense privilege, and one that has shaped my current thinking about who I am, how I feel and what my views are, particularly in relation to those around me and the world we live in. I really feel that I am a better, more self aware person because of this course. If you would like to deepen your understanding of yourself, and shake up how you see the world, I would strongly recommend Lifeline’s a personal growth course."
