Personal Growth Course
The Personal Growth course is a pre-requisite for admission to the Communication and Counselling Skills course because we believe that no one is in a position to counsel another until they have a clear understanding of themselves. In this way counsellors are able to recognise their own emotional triggers and be aware of keeping their own issues separate from those of the caller.
In addition, obtaining this self-awareness and knowledge leads to greater understanding and an enhanced ability to communicate effectively. Increased self knowledge enables us to focus effectively on the other in any interaction, thereby improving relationships.
The course is constructed to lead us into a deeper exploration of who we are and why we behave in the way we do. It covers a range of topics which are explored over the ten sessions. The topics range from relationships and conflict, to spirituality, loss and many other issues such as structural life pressures and coping mechanisms.
People work in small groups, each facilitated by an experienced counsellor whose task it is to ensure the safety and containment of their group. The learning is experiential in nature and not lecture based. Exercises range from discussions, drawing, guided meditations and a variety of others and participants can expect both laughter and tears! A totally non-judgemental and supportive, confidential approach is guaranteed.
Fifty years and tens of thousands of participants later, we can safely say that this course comes highly recommended by all who have done it.

Please note our attendance policies for this course:
- Compulsory sessions 1, 3 and 10 cannot be missed. If missed, you may continue the course, but not be eligible for selection.
- If a trainee misses 2 consecutive sessions, they will not be allowed to proceed with the course.
- If a trainee misses 2 non-consecutive sessions, they may proceed with the course, but not be eligible for selection.
*Please take note of the dates of the courses as some are out of sequence to cater for religious holidays.
